Abstract

The importance of leadership in project performance has been the subject of studies in recent decades. Part of these studies also exposes the difficulties in the process of transformation of specialists in managers, which must be transposed in order to managerial function development related to the performance of the team in the projects. In this way, it becomes essential for the leader to understand what competencies he must meet or develop to lead the group to the project success and in which phases of the project his or her performance is most important. Thus, this paper aims to clarify such points, as well as to confirm the importance of leadership in the performance of the projects from the point of view of the project members. The methodology used to obtain answers was the application of an online questionnaire. The obtained data indicate that the strategic vision of the leader is the most important competence for the project success and that managerial competencies, in average, are considered more essential than others, thus confirming the importance of the development of this function for new leaders. Management participation was considered more essential in the planning stage. And, finally, the leader's importance to project success was confirmed from the point of view of project members, with 50% of the grades attributed to this question being greater than or equal to 09, on a scale of 0 to 10.
